Health Insurance Procrastination

Around 50 million Americans are uninsured. There are several excuses as to why they have not bought a policy. Many reasons are completely excusable. Some are not. Many people are putting off getting health insurance until they quit bad habits or change their health in some way. This is a bad expense to put off. So many Americans have gone into extreme debt or even bankruptcy because they procrastinated when it came to their coverage.

A large number of U.S. residents still use tobacco. This habit, of course, raises health insurance premiums. Why? Since so many people who either smoke or chew tobacco end up with cancer as well as many medical bills for health insurance companies to pay, those who have these habits pay more for their coverage. Several thousand smokers and chewers say they’ll get coverage when they quit. What’s the problem with that? It obviously isn’t that easy to quit. Also, there is usually a period of time that you have to be tobacco-free before you can be charged as such by an insurance company. This is just another form of procrastination- one that could ruin you and your family financially, though.

There are also several uninsured Americans who have diabetes, high blood pressure, are overweight or are approaching these characteristics. Have you ever heard someone say they’ll do something when they lose weight? Well, along with getting a two piece bathing suit and wearing a sleeveless top, people say this about their health insurance. The problem is, though, that people who are overweight often times end up with conditions or diseases that require long hospital stays and/or expensive medication. In essence, before these people get on the weight loss bandwagon, they have a large chance of racking up some huge medical bills. Don’t risk your assets for the cost of a policy. It just isn’t smart.

Many people have pre-existing conditions and want to get rid of them before getting covered. Most of these Americans probably were covered under a group health plan at some time and don’t want to deal with getting less for more on their own because of their condition. First of all, that sometimes isn’t the case. Secondly, going without medications and/or insurance is not the answer. These Americans should talk with a knowledgeable agent to see what options are available to them and how much they are.

All in all, it never pays to risk your assets instead of purchasing a policy. There are many options available to people with pre-existing conditions, bad habits, and for those who are overweight. Procrastination never pays off. Contact AXS Health Insurance Agency today to see what plans and pricing is available for you!
